Ten French Baptist Pastors (XIXth Century)

Alexandre DEZ (1830-1913)

Alexandre DEZ (1830-1913)

Professor in a school in La Fère (Aisne), of Catholic origin, and raised by his aunt. He was led to Baptist convictions by Irénée Foulon. He abandoned a career as a professor which was offered to him at the Normal School of Laon, was baptized in July 1852 in La Fère, and decided to get an education at the Baptist School of Douai, then in Paris. He became pastor of the small Baptist Church in the capital replacing Willard. He was officially ordained on June 30, 1856. He married the sister of Hector Boileau.
Long-time member of the Baptist committee, he was a scrupulous and much appreciated treasurer.
He left his mark on the Parisian Baptist movement through fifty years of pastoral commitment.
